How we test and measure our LED headlights
We test, measure, and compare our LED headlights against factory HID to make sure you get real, usable light — not just inflated lumen numbers.
Why lux, not just lumens?
Lumens = total light. Lux = light where you actually need it. A bad high-lumen bulb can still produce poor road visibility if the beam isn’t controlled. That’s why we measure at the same 15 points OEMs use (SAE J575 style).
- 1–3: glare / high beam points
- 4–5: driver-side cutoff
- 6–9: center beam intensity
- 10–15: uniformity left/right of center
Temperature testing
After 10 minutes of continuous output we measure LED chip temp and heatsink temp — lower temps = more efficient LED and longer life.
| Product | Distance | Volts | Amps | Watts | Dissipation | Time | Housing Temp | Bulb Temp |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stock HID | 15 ft | 13.7 | 2.8 | 38.36 | Ambient | 600 s | 81°F | 380°F |
| Kepler D Series LED | 15 ft | 13.73 | 2.85 | 39.13 | Fan | 600 s | 79°F | 114°F |
Beam comparison
Compared to typical HID, the Kepler LED shows higher lux in the core beam (points 6–9) and better fill in the outer points (10L–15R), which translates to a whiter, wider field of view.
